WHAT IT DOES

Universal Ethical Sourcing Badge helps you make informed purchasing decisions by detecting and analyzing ethical sourcing information on any webpage. The script scans for keywords related to fair trade, organic, sustainable, cruelty-free, B Corp, and other ethical certifications, then displays a visible badge showing the ethical sourcing status. Color-coded indicators make it easy to understand at a glance: green for certified/verified, yellow for claims present, gray for unknown, and red for concerning or conflicting claims. A detailed breakdown shows all detected certifications and claims with their verification status. Each product receives an ethical score based on the presence and type of certifications. The dashboard tracks ethical scores across multiple brands and products, allowing you to compare items based on their ethical sourcing metrics. Suggestions for improvement are provided when concerning terms are detected.

WHERE IT RUNS

This script runs on every website (matching all URLs), detecting ethical sourcing information across the entire web. It works on product pages, brand websites, e-commerce listings, and any page that may contain ethical sourcing claims or certifications. The script automatically adapts to each page and handles both static and dynamically loaded content.

HOW TO USE

After installing through the BotGentz extension, simply browse to any product or brand page. The script automatically scans for ethical sourcing information and displays a badge. Use the configuration panel to customize your experience: toggle the ethical badge on or off, show or hide details, show or hide the score, adjust sensitivity (0.3 to 2.0), and enable or disable auto-detection. The panel displays real-time statistics including the current score and number of tracked products. Use the "Analyze Page" button to manually scan, or "Clear History" to remove all tracked data.

ETHICAL SOURCING DETECTION WITH CERTIFICATION MAPPING AND SCORING SYSTEM

This script implements an ethical sourcing detection engine with a comprehensive certification database covering fair trade, organic, B Corp, cruelty-free, vegan, sustainable, rainforest alliance, carbon neutral, and more. Each certification type has a keyword list and weight value (8-25 points) based on rigor and verification level. The detection engine scans page text for keywords using case-insensitive matching, identifying certifications (verified third-party) and claims (self-reported). The scoring system calculates a weighted score based on detected certifications and claims, with bonus points for certifications and penalties for concerning terms (child labor, forced labor, greenwashing, etc.). The normalized score (0-100) maps to status levels: certified (70+), claimed (40-70), and concerning (with negative keywords). The history tracking stores scores and findings across browsing sessions, enabling product comparison over time.

THE PANEL

The configuration panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per-site using GM_setValue. It snaps to screen edges when dragged near them, collapses to a compact bubble when minimized, and supports Escape key for quick collapse. All settings—including badge visibility, details display, score display, auto-detection, and sensitivity—are persisted across sessions.

It does not capture, store, or transmit any personal information. All data is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and never transmitted to external servers. The ethical sourcing analysis is based on keyword detection and may not catch all certifications or claims, especially those in images or non-text formats. The scoring system is a general guide and should not be considered authoritative—always verify ethical claims through official certification bodies.
