About this app

WHAT IT DOES

This script automatically scans any product page for return policy information and makes it instantly readable. It highlights key policy terms in four critical categories: free returns (no-cost returns or exchanges), time limits (how many days you have to return), restocking fees (percentage or flat fee charged), and return shipping costs (who pays for return postage). Based on what it finds, the script calculates a policy rating from "Excellent" to "Poor" and displays a floating summary badge on your screen. The badge shows the rating, a numerical score, and a breakdown of what was found, so you can make informed purchasing decisions in seconds.

WHERE IT RUNS

The script works on any e-commerce or product page across the web—Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Best Buy, Etsy, Shopify stores, and thousands of others. It runs on any page that contains return policy text, regardless of where that policy is located: product descriptions, shipping tabs, footer links, dedicated policy sections, or FAQ areas. The script's multi-layer scanning approach finds policy text even when it's buried in accordions, tabs, or dynamically loaded content.

HOW TO USE

After installation, the script scans automatically when you load a product page. Open the panel to customize your experience: choose a highlight color, toggle which policy categories to highlight (free returns, time limits, fees, shipping), and control whether the summary badge appears. Move the badge to your preferred screen corner using the position selector. Click "Scan & Highlight" to re-run the scan after dynamic content loads, or "Clear Highlights" to remove all styling. Hover over any highlighted term to see a tooltip explaining what was found. Click the summary badge to toggle its opacity for a less distracting view.

TECHNICAL MECHANISM

This script operates through a three-stage scanning process. First, it identifies potential policy containers using a prioritized list of CSS selectors, then falls back to a text-based search across common content elements. Second, for each identified element, it applies a pattern-matching engine that uses regular expressions to detect policy terms. The patterns are grouped into four categories with weighted scores—free returns (+10), time limits (+2 to +8 based on days), restocking fees (-5), and return shipping (-2 to -3 based on who pays). Third, it calculates an overall rating by summing category weights, maps the score to a rating level, and generates the badge display with category-specific details. The script uses DOM mutation observation to re-scan when new content loads, ensuring policies that appear dynamically are still captured.

THE PANEL

The settings panel is fully draggable and can be positioned anywhere on your screen. It automatically snaps to the nearest edge when released, keeping your workspace organized. The panel can be collapsed to a small bubble showing only a gear icon, and restored with a single click. Its position is remembered across page reloads using GM_setValue. The panel also responds to the Escape key, which instantly hides it until you click the bubble again. All settings are saved immediately when changed and persist across browser sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. Return policy text varies widely across websites, and the script's pattern matching may occasionally miss unusual policy wording or incorrectly interpret ambiguous phrases. The rating is a helpful guide, not a legal determination—always read the full policy before making a purchase. The script does not access, store, or transmit any personal data, purchase information, or browsing history. All scanning and highlighting happens locally in your browser, and no information ever leaves your device.
