About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Yahoo Sports Web Score Ticker Compactor reads the live score ticker from the Yahoo Sports page and transforms it into a dense, horizontally scrolling compact view. Each game entry is reduced to show only the essential information: team names (with abbreviations), current scores, and game status (Live, Final, or time remaining). Redundant elements like team logos, detailed statistics, game descriptions, separators, and extra metadata are removed or hidden. Spacing between entries is condensed, and the entire ticker is converted to a horizontal scrolling layout that allows you to see more games at a glance. The extension persists your compact mode preference, so the view stays the way you like it across sessions. Additional toggles let you control whether scores are shown and adjust the font size.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on all Yahoo Sports pages at yahoo.com and its subdomains, specifically on the score ticker and live scores sections. It runs on the main sports page, the scoreboard view, and any page displaying the live score ticker. The extension operates entirely within your browser and does not access Yahoo's servers directly—it reads only what is visible on the page you are viewing. It works alongside the free BotGentz extension, which provides the necessary scripting environment.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension, then navigate to yahoo.com and open the sports section with the live score ticker. The extension automatically applies compact mode to the ticker. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar to open the settings panel. The "Compact Mode" toggle controls whether the compact view is active—toggle it off to restore the original Yahoo layout. The "Show scores" toggle controls whether scores appear in the compact view. Use the font size dropdown to adjust the text size—choose Small, Medium, or Large. The "Auto-scroll" speed setting controls how fast the ticker scrolls horizontally (Off, Slow, Medium, Fast). The "Apply Changes" button manually reapplies compact styling. Your settings are saved automatically.

SELECTOR-BASED COMPACTION WITH CONTENT REORGANIZATION

Unlike simple visual compression, this extension uses a combination of CSS class injection, content reorganization, and direct style application to achieve compaction. It first locates the score ticker container using a fallback chain of selectors, then processes each game item individually. For each game, the extension extracts team names, scores, and status, then reorganizes them into a compact layout using a custom HTML structure. Team abbreviations are extracted from parenthetical text (e.g., "Los Angeles (LAL)") and displayed alongside full names. Scores are combined with a dash separator and positioned to the right of team names. Status text is used to apply color coding (red for live games, dimmed for finals). Redundant elements are hidden using a comprehensive list of selector patterns. The resulting compact ticker is wrapped in a horizontal scrolling container with a custom scrollbar style.

THE PANEL

The panel supports drag-to-move anywhere on the page. It remembers its position per site, so it stays where you placed it on yahoo.com. Click the panel header to collapse it down to just the minimized bubble, or click the expand handle to show the full panel. The panel can be resized by dragging the bottom-right corner. Press the Escape key to close the expanded panel and return to the minimized state. All panel settings, including position, size, collapsed state, compact mode, score visibility, font size, and auto-scroll speed, are saved per site and persist across browsing sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz extension to be installed and active, as it provides the underlying DOM injection and script execution environment. Yahoo Sports' website changes periodically, and ticker element structures, class names, and page layouts may be updated. When that happens, the extension may stop compacting the ticker until an update is released. The extension stores your compact mode preference, score visibility, font size, and auto-scroll speed locally in your browser's storage using GM_setValue. No data is ever sent to any server, and no personal information is collected. The extension does not read or store your Yahoo login credentials, email, or any identifying information. It only reads visible score data from the page. You can clear all stored settings at any time by clearing your browser data for yahoo.com.
