WHAT IT DOES

Zettelkasten ID Generator Injector scans your page content, extracts meaningful keywords, and generates a unique timestamp-based ID following Zettelkasten principles. The ID combines a configurable timestamp format, page title, extracted keywords, and optional prefix/suffix into a structured identifier. With one click, you can copy the ID to your clipboard or inject it directly into your page content as a formatted tag or header. This helps you maintain a consistent ID system across your notes, articles, and research materials.

WHERE IT RUNS

Works on any web page with text content, including Obsidian, Notion, Roam Research, and general articles. The script intelligently detects main content areas using common selectors, extracts page titles and body text, and processes them locally. It also works on contenteditable sections, making it suitable for note-taking apps and web-based editors.

HOW TO USE

A floating panel appears in the corner of your screen. Customize your ID format using the settings: add a prefix (e.g., "ZK" or "LIT"), choose a timestamp format (compact, ISO, or readable), and add a suffix for version tracking. Toggle whether to include the page title and keywords in the ID. Click "Generate ID" to create a new ID based on the current page content, or enable "Auto-inject" to automatically generate and insert an ID when the page loads. The panel displays a preview of the generated ID and keeps a history of your recent IDs for quick reuse.

MECHANISM — CONTENT-AWARE KEYWORD EXTRACTION

The script extracts keywords using frequency analysis, filtering out common stopwords and punctuation. It analyzes word frequency across the page content, identifies the most significant terms, and uses them to create a meaningful slug appended to the timestamp. This ensures each ID is not just a random number but a semantically meaningful identifier that reflects the content's subject matter. The timestamp component uses your local system time, creating a chronologically sortable ID that works across all platforms without requiring network calls.

THE PANEL

The floating panel is fully draggable and remembers its position per domain. Click the minimize button to collapse it to a small bubble, or press Escape to hide it. The panel automatically adjusts to different screen sizes and can be resized to show more settings. All settings and recent ID history are stored locally using GM_setValue, persisting across browser sessions.

PLEASE NOTE

This script requires the free BotGentz extension to run. It does not send any data to external servers; all processing and storage remain entirely local to your browser. The script never reads password fields, hidden inputs, or file inputs. It stores only the generated IDs and your configuration settings. As websites change their structure, the content extraction selectors may need updating. If the script stops detecting your content, use the "Generate ID" button to manually trigger extraction, or check for script updates.
