WHAT IT DOES

Board Game Price Tracker Overlay automatically detects the board game you are viewing on BoardGameGeek and fetches current prices from major online retailers including Amazon, Miniature Market, CoolStuffInc, GameNerdz, and Cardhaus. The tool displays a price comparison overlay showing each retailer's price, stock status, and a direct link to the product page. It tracks price history over time, allowing you to see price trends and identify the best time to buy. A price alert feature notifies you when a game drops below a specified threshold, helping you snag deals as soon as they appear.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works exclusively on BoardGameGeek at boardgamegeek.com. It functions on game pages (/boardgame/*), including the main game overview, versions, and expansions. The tool detects the game name and ID from the page structure and uses that information to generate retailer search queries.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any board game page on BoardGameGeek. The overlay panel appears with the game name detected. Click "Track Prices Now" to fetch current prices from all supported retailers. Results display each store's icon, name, price, stock status, and a direct link. Click any store row or the "▶" button to open the store page in a new tab. Click "Show Price History" to view the last 10 price entries in the status area. Set a price alert threshold in the settings — when any retailer's price drops below this amount, you will receive a desktop notification. Enable "Auto-fetch on load" to automatically check prices every time you visit a game page.

TECHNICAL SECTION — RETAILER QUERY GENERATION AND PRICE FETCHING

The extension extracts the game name and publisher from the BoardGameGeek page using multiple selectors for robust detection. It then generates retailer-specific search queries by combining the game name with the publisher name, improving search accuracy. The tool supports five major board game retailers out of the box, with configurable retailer selection. Price data is fetched through a structured API pipeline that normalizes responses from different sources into a consistent format. For retailers without public APIs, the tool generates optimized search URLs that open directly to the retailer's search results page with the game name pre-filled. Price history is stored locally using GM_setValue, keyed by the BoardGameGeek game ID, with a maximum of 50 historical entries per game to prevent excessive storage use. The price alert system compares each retailer's price against the user-defined threshold and triggers a GM_notification when a match is found.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current best price; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more or fewer store listings. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or BoardGameGeek activity is stored, transmitted, or shared. All price data is fetched from public retail sources; availability and pricing accuracy depend on the retailers' current listings. Price history is stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and is never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. Retailers may change their website structure or search parameters; the extension includes configurable retailer URLs that can be updated if needed. The tool provides price estimates and should be verified against the actual retailer page before purchase.
