About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Game Store Price Comparator Overlay automatically detects the game you are viewing on Steam and fetches real-time price comparisons from multiple digital game stores including Epic Games Store, GOG, Humble Bundle, Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, and more. The tool displays prices from each store in a clean overlay panel, highlights the cheapest option, and shows savings percentages compared to the original price. It also provides direct links to each store listing, allowing you to purchase at the best available price instantly. The tool saves you time and money by eliminating the need to manually check multiple storefronts for the best deal on any game.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works exclusively on Steam store pages at store.steampowered.com/app/*. It functions on all game pages, including base games, DLC, and bundles. The tool integrates with the CheapShark API to fetch price data from over 10 major game stores, covering the most popular digital distribution platforms. It works globally across all Steam regional storefronts and supports USD currency with automatic conversion handling.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any Steam game page. The overlay panel appears with the game name detected automatically. Click "Compare Prices Now" to fetch current prices from all supported stores. The results display each store's icon, name, current price, original price (if discounted), and savings percentage. The cheapest option is listed first, with a green price indicator. Use the "Show only cheapest" toggle to filter results to only the lowest-priced store. Click any store row to open that store's game page in a new tab. The tool automatically fetches prices when you load a new game page if the auto-fetch setting is enabled.

TECHNICAL SECTION — API INTEGRATION AND PRICE NORMALIZATION

The extension uses the publicly available CheapShark API, which aggregates game pricing data from over 10 major digital stores through a single endpoint. When the user views a Steam game page, the tool extracts the Steam App ID from the URL (e.g., /app/730/ for Counter-Strike). It then constructs a request to the CheapShark API's game lookup endpoint, passing the App ID to retrieve all current deals. The API returns a structured JSON response containing store identifiers, prices in USD, retail prices, and deal IDs. The extension maps store IDs to human-readable names using a predefined lookup table, normalizes all prices to a consistent numeric format, and sorts results by price. The tool respects the user's preference to show only the cheapest option, filtering results client-side without additional API calls. No authentication or API key is required, making the integration reliable and maintenance-free.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the cheapest price found; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more or fewer store listings. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or Steam activity is stored, transmitted, or shared. All price data is fetched from the public CheapShark API, which aggregates store prices but may have slight delays in updating. Prices are displayed in USD and may not reflect regional pricing, taxes, or store-specific promotions. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. CheapShark may update its API or change its data format; the extension includes error handling to display clear messages when price data is unavailable. Store availability varies by region and game; not all stores carry every game.
