It engages with the original post's content, adds value to the discussion, addresses any questions raised, and can be customized by tone (academic, collaborative, critical, or supportive) and length (short, medium, or detailed). This makes it easy to participate meaningfully in academic discussions without the stress of crafting the perfect response from scratch.

WHERE IT RUNS

This tool operates as a userscript within the BotGentz extension framework, running directly in your browser on any website. It works on course management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle), discussion forums, and virtually any academic discussion platform. The tool integrates seamlessly into your workflow, appearing as a draggable panel that stays accessible as you engage in class discussions.

HOW TO USE

Click "Scan Page" to automatically extract the discussion thread content from the current page. The tool intelligently identifies the original post and any existing replies. Configure your reply settings: choose your preferred tone (Academic, Collaborative, Critical, or Supportive), select your desired reply length (Short, Medium, or Detailed), and toggle references and citations inclusion on or off. Click "Draft Reply" to send the content to the AI backend. Within moments, you'll receive a well-structured draft reply. Use the "Copy Draft" button to paste it into the discussion board.

TECHNICAL OPERATION

Discussion Board Reply Drafter employs a multi-strategy extraction pipeline that first checks for selected text, then attempts WebMCP (navigator.modelContext) when available—a W3C proposal for structured page content access—and falls back to DOM-based content detection using prioritized selectors for discussion containers, thread sections, and content areas. The user's tone preference, length selection, and reference inclusion toggle are encoded as system-level instructions in the prompt sent to the AI. The text is truncated to 8000 characters and transmitted via GM_xmlhttpRequest to the AI backend. The AI, specifically prompted as an academic discussion specialist, analyzes the thread to identify the original post's main argument, supporting points, and any questions raised. It also considers existing replies to avoid redundancy. The AI then crafts a reply that engages thoughtfully with the content, adds new perspectives or depth, and addresses any unanswered questions, all while matching the selected tone and length. When references are enabled, appropriate citations or course materials may be incorporated. Each request is authenticated with a subscription key and counts against your monthly usage cap.

THE PANEL

The Discussion Board Reply Drafter panel is fully draggable and remembers its position between sessions using GM_setValue. It snaps to the edge of the viewport for a clean interface and can be collapsed to a small icon when not in use. The panel is resizable to accommodate longer content. Press Escape to quickly close or collapse the panel. The design is optimized for productivity with a dark theme, clear visual hierarchy, and responsive controls that adapt to your workflow.
