WHAT IT DOES

Fine Print Summarizer extracts the fine print, legal disclaimers, and boilerplate language from any page and uses advanced AI to generate a clear, plain-language summary that explains what it actually means for you. It highlights hidden fees, limitations, commitments, rights being waived, and other important terms that are often buried in dense legal text—helping you understand exactly what you're agreeing to before you sign or click "I agree."

WHERE IT RUNS

This tool operates as a userscript within the BotGentz extension framework, running directly in your browser on any website. It works on terms of service, privacy policies, terms and conditions, purchase agreements, subscription sign-ups, and virtually any page with legal disclaimers or fine print. The tool integrates seamlessly into your workflow, appearing as a draggable panel that stays accessible as you review legal language.

HOW TO USE

Click "Scan Page" to automatically extract the fine print content from the current page. The tool intelligently identifies disclaimers, terms, and legal language. Configure your summary settings: choose your preferred summary depth (Brief, Standard, or Detailed), toggle concerning term highlighting on or off to see potential issues prominently, and toggle included questions on or off to get practical questions you should ask before agreeing. Click "Summarize Fine Print" to send the content to the AI backend. Within moments, you'll receive a plain-language summary. Use the "Copy Summary" button to save it for reference.

TECHNICAL OPERATION

Fine Print Summarizer employs a multi-strategy extraction pipeline that first checks for selected text, then attempts WebMCP (navigator.modelContext) when available—a W3C proposal for structured page content access—and falls back to DOM-based content detection using prioritized selectors for fine print containers, legal disclaimer sections, terms of service areas, and content regions. The user's depth preference, highlighting setting, and question inclusion toggle are encoded as system-level instructions in the prompt sent to the AI. The text is truncated to 8000 characters and transmitted via GM_xmlhttpRequest to the AI backend. The AI, specifically prompted as a plain-language legal translator, analyzes the text to identify dense legal language, jargon, and boilerplate provisions. It then translates these into clear, accessible explanations, identifying hidden fees, financial obligations, liability limitations, auto-renewal terms, cancellation policies, and rights waivers. The output organizes these findings with plain-language explanations, flags the most important terms, and when enabled, suggests specific questions to ask before proceeding. Each request is authenticated with a subscription key and counts against your monthly usage cap.

THE PANEL

The Fine Print Summarizer panel is fully draggable and remembers its position between sessions using GM_setValue. It snaps to the edge of the viewport for a clean interface and can be collapsed to a small icon when not in use. The panel is resizable to accommodate longer content. Press Escape to quickly close or collapse the panel. The design is optimized for productivity with a dark theme, clear visual hierarchy, and responsive controls that adapt to your workflow.
