Universal Keyboard Shortcut Cheatsheet Overlay detects and displays keyboard shortcuts on any webpage, providing a compact, searchable cheatsheet overlay. The tool includes a comprehensive database of common shortcuts organized by category (General, Navigation, Editing, Accessibility, Browser-Specific), and also detects app-specific shortcuts from the page content. A search function lets you quickly find shortcuts by key or description, and the overlay can be toggled on and off with a keyboard shortcut (Shift+?). This helps you learn and remember shortcuts for any application or website.

This extension works on any website across the entire web. It functions on productivity apps, document editors, social media platforms, development tools, and any site with keyboard shortcuts. The tool works across all domains and adapts to dynamically loaded content.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and press Shift+? on any webpage to open the shortcut cheatsheet. The overlay shows all available shortcuts grouped by category. Use the search bar to filter shortcuts by key or description. Use the overlay panel to customize the experience: toggle the cheatsheet display on or off, configure which categories to show (comma-separated), toggle search functionality on or off, and click "Show Cheatsheet" or "Toggle Cheatsheet" to open or close it. The tool automatically detects app-specific shortcuts from the page content and adds them to the cheatsheet.

TECHNICAL SECTION — SHORTCUT DETECTION AND CHEATSHEET DISPLAY

The extension uses a comprehensive shortcut database with over 50 common shortcuts organized into five categories. For app-specific shortcuts, the tool scans the page text using regex patterns to detect keyboard shortcut mentions in formats like "Ctrl+S — Save" or "Shortcut: Ctrl+P to Print." Detected shortcuts are added to a "Detected" category in the cheatsheet. The cheatsheet is created using DOM manipulation with inline CSS, rendered as a centered modal overlay with scrollable content. The search feature filters shortcuts in real-time by matching against both the key combination and description. The overlay can be toggled using Shift+?, and the tool persists user settings locally. A MutationObserver re-scans the page for new shortcuts when content changes.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current shortcut status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or shortcut usage data is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The shortcut database includes common shortcuts that may not be available on all websites. App-specific shortcut detection is best-effort and may not catch all shortcuts, especially those not displayed as text on the page. The Shift+? keyboard shortcut may conflict with other extensions or website shortcuts; it can be disabled in the settings.
