WHAT IT DOES

The Product Description Simplifier reads the visible text of any product page and transforms dense, marketing-heavy descriptions into a clean, plain‑English summary. It extracts the product name, its main purpose, the top three features (in everyday language), and up to five key specifications with their units—then rewrites everything into a single coherent summary of no more than 150 words. Technical jargon, buzzwords, and fluff are stripped away, leaving you with a straightforward explanation that a non‑expert can grasp in seconds. Whether you are comparing gadgets, researching purchases, or simply trying to understand what a product actually does, this tool cuts through the noise and gives you the essential facts.

WHERE IT RUNS

It runs as a draggable overlay panel inside the BotGentz browser extension on any website that displays product information—Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Newegg, AliExpress, Etsy, Shopify stores, manufacturer product pages, review sites, and more. It works on both simple product pages and complex multi‑section descriptions, automatically focusing on the most relevant content areas.

HOW TO USE

1. Install the free BotGentz extension (see PLEASE NOTE).

2. Navigate to any product page with a description you want to simplify.

3. Click the BotGentz icon and select "Product Description Simplifier" from the tools menu.

4. The panel opens. Click the "Simplify Description" button.

5. Wait 2–5 seconds while the AI reads the page and generates the simplified summary.

6. Review the plain‑English summary displayed in the panel.

7. Use the "Copy Summary" button to copy the simplified text to your clipboard.

8. Drag the panel to reposition it, resize it, collapse it, or press Escape to close.

THE ACTUAL MECHANISM — multi‑zone content prioritization with lexical density reduction

Most summarization tools either take the entire page indiscriminately or rely on a single fixed selector, which fails on custom store designs. This tool uses a two‑phase content prioritization engine. First, it scans the page for known product‑content containers using a weighted selector registry—targeting elements with class or ID patterns like "description", "product‑details", "specs", "features", "overview", and structured data attributes like `itemprop="description"`. Each candidate element is scored based on text length (longer is better), keyword density (matches against a curated product‑lexicon of over 500 common feature terms like "battery", "resolution", "material", "connectivity"), and proximity to price or add‑to‑cart elements. The top‑scoring container is then extracted. Second, the extracted text undergoes lexical density reduction: a lightweight part‑of‑speech tagger identifies and flags excessive adjectives, superlatives, and weasel words ("amazing", "revolutionary", "best‑in‑class") which are de‑prioritized, while nouns, verbs, and numerical specifications are retained at full weight. This filtered, prioritized text is then sent to the AI with a tightly constrained prompt that forces a 150‑word limit, three features, and up to five specifications—ensuring the output is consistently brief and focused, never a reworded copy of the original fluff.

THE PANEL

The panel is fully draggable by its title bar and snaps to the nearest edge of the viewport when released. You can resize it horizontally by dragging the left or right border; the height expands to fit content up to a maximum, with scrolling inside the results area. A collapse button minimizes the panel to a small floating chip showing "⚙️ Product Description" — click it to expand back. Press Escape at any time to close the panel entirely. The panel remembers its last position, size, and expansion state per domain via localStorage.

- Product pages change frequently; if the tool fails to extract a description or produces incomplete results, use the "Report issue" link in the panel footer. We monitor reports and push script updates weekly.

- No page content is ever stored on our servers. The page text is transmitted securely to the AI endpoint solely for processing and is not retained. Only anonymized usage metrics (panel open/close, analysis runs, error reports) are collected; you can disable this in the extension settings at any time.
