About this app

WHAT IT DOES

Website Time Limit Timer tracks the time you spend on any website with a visible, color-coded timer overlay. Set a time limit for any site — when you approach the limit, a warning notification appears. When the limit is reached, the tool shows a full-screen warning overlay and can optionally redirect you to another page. The timer helps you manage your browsing habits, avoid spending too much time on distracting sites, and stay productive throughout the day. With per-site limits, pause/resume controls, and a reset option, you have full control over your time management.

WHERE IT RUNS

This extension works on any website across the entire web. It functions on social media sites, news sites, forums, video streaming platforms, and any page you want to limit your time on. The tool works across all domains and adapts to single-page applications and dynamically loaded content.

HOW TO USE

Install the extension and navigate to any website. A timer overlay appears in the corner of the screen, counting up from zero. Use the overlay panel to configure the time limit for the current site: set the time limit in minutes, adjust the warning threshold, choose the timer position (top-right, top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left), enable or disable auto-redirect on limit, and set a redirect URL. Click "Reset Timer" to reset the timer to zero, or "Pause/Resume" to temporarily pause the count. The timer color changes from default to yellow as you approach the limit, and turns red when the limit is reached.

TECHNICAL SECTION — TIME TRACKING AND PERSISTENCE

The extension uses a high-precision time tracking system based on Date.now() timestamps. When a page loads, the tool captures the start time and tracks elapsed time through a requestAnimationFrame or setInterval loop (1-second interval). The timer accounts for pause/resume events by tracking the total paused duration separately. The timer state is reset on navigation by default, but can be configured to persist across page loads within the same domain. The warning system checks the elapsed time against the configured limit and threshold on each tick, triggering a GM_notification when the warning threshold is crossed and showing the full-screen overlay when the limit is reached. The timer display updates every second and is color-coded based on remaining time — normal (blue/gray), warning (yellow), and limit reached (red). The auto-redirect feature uses window.location.href to navigate to the configured URL after a 3-second delay when the limit is reached.

THE PANEL — DRAG / PER-SITE POSITION / SNAP / COLLAPSE / RESIZE / ESCAPE

The overlay panel is fully interactive and designed for seamless multitasking. Drag it anywhere on the screen using the handle at the top of the panel; the position is saved per site so it stays where you left it across sessions. The panel includes a snap-to-edge feature that gently anchors the overlay to the nearest screen edge when released. Click the collapse button to minimize the panel to a compact pill showing the current timer status; expand it again with a single click. Resize the panel vertically by dragging the bottom-right corner to view more controls. Press the Escape key at any time to instantly close the overlay; it reappears on the next page navigation or refresh.

PLEASE NOTE

This extension requires the free BotGentz companion extension to function, as it provides the underlying content script injection and cross-origin communication framework. No personal data, browsing history, or timing data is stored, transmitted, or shared. Settings are stored locally in your browser using GM_setValue and are never sent to any external server. The extension does not access or store login credentials, financial data, or personally identifiable information. The timer runs in the page context and may be affected by system sleep, page reloads, or browser crashes. The timer does not persist across browser sessions — each session starts fresh unless you manually reset it. The warning and limit notifications rely on GM_notification and may not appear on all browser configurations. Use the tool as a helpful reminder, not as a strict enforcement mechanism — you can always continue browsing by clicking "Continue anyway" on the warning overlay.
