WHAT IT DOES

Cover Letter Tone Matcher reads the current page's job description and your pasted cover letter, then analyzes both to identify the tone of the job description (formal, casual, enthusiastic, technical, etc.) and provides suggestions to adjust your cover letter's tone to better match the company's voice and the role's requirements. The tool helps you create cover letters that resonate with hiring managers by aligning your writing style with the company's communication style.

WHERE IT RUNS

This tool works on any webpage that displays job descriptions, including LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, company career pages, and other job boards. It automatically detects job description content from the page. You paste your cover letter directly into the panel. The script runs on all websites as designated in its match patterns.

HOW TO USE

After installing the BotGentz extension and subscribing, navigate to any job posting page. Click the Cover Letter Tone Matcher icon in your browser toolbar or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+T). The panel will open. Click "Extract Job Description" to automatically capture the job description from the page. Paste your cover letter into the cover letter area—this is saved locally for future sessions. Choose your target tone preference (Formal, Casual, Enthusiastic, Professional, or Technical) and toggle settings for phrase replacements, tone score, and preserving original meaning. Click "Analyze Tone" to compare both documents. The tool provides a tone analysis with specific suggestions including tone identification, key phrase replacements, and overall tone alignment recommendations. Copy the suggestions to your clipboard with the "Copy Suggestions" button.

TECHNICAL SECTION — TONE ANALYSIS AND ALIGNMENT ENGINE

Unlike simple grammar or spell-check tools, this tool uses a tone analysis and alignment engine. It first parses both the job description and your cover letter, analyzing vocabulary, sentence structure, formality level, and emotional register. The engine identifies the dominant tone of the job description by examining word choice (formal vs. casual language), sentence complexity, and the presence of technical jargon or enthusiastic language. It then compares this against your cover letter's tone, identifying specific mismatches. The AI generates actionable suggestions including which phrases to replace, how to adjust sentence structure, and recommendations for shifting the overall tone while preserving your original meaning. The result is a set of precise, actionable recommendations that help you align your cover letter with the company's voice.

THE PANEL

The panel is draggable anywhere on the screen and remembers its position per site. It can snap to the left, right, top, or bottom edges, or float freely. Collapse it to a small status indicator when you need more page visibility, and expand it again with a single click. Resize it vertically or horizontally to show more of the job description or suggestions. Press Escape to close the panel instantly. All settings (target tone, phrase replacements, tone score, preserve meaning) are saved globally and persist across sessions. Your cover letter text is stored locally in your browser.
